EXPOSING AND OVERCOMING ADDICTIONS - PT2

AMNON AND TAMAR

2 Samuel 13: 1-21

"After this Absalom the son of David had a lovely sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. 2 Amnon was so obsessed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her. 3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man."

Amnon loved his sister Tamar. The bible mentioned that he was obsessed over his sister Tamar and he became sick, for she was virgin.

To be obsessed can mean the following :

- Possessive thoughts and actions.

- Extreme jealousy over other interpersonal interactions.

- An overwhelming attraction to one person.

- Obsessive thoughts about the person.

- Feeling the need to “protect” the person you're in love with.

This means that Amnon was deeply drawn to his sister, especially because she was a virgin.

This attraction was more than a normal feeling of love. In the realm of the spirit, it was a demonic obsession that came from addictive spirits, for every addiction begins with an obsession.

4 And he said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

The obsession for Tamar was so strong that it became an addiction. Even physically he was getting thinner and thinner every day as mentioned in verse 4.

An addiction doesn't have only a spiritual impact but it can also affect you physically. Your body can respond to the expression of the addiction.

The fact that the body of Amnon was responding to the need of the spirit of addictions was because the spirit of Amnon was weak.

The spirit of man is weak when he has no intimacy with God. (Galatians 5:16)

5 So Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, so that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’

Jonadab gave Amnon a demonic strategy so that he could sleep with Tamar.

When you are controlled by these spirits, they will make sure to give you evil strategies to fulfill their desires whenever they want to use you to satisfy themselves. You will receive inspirations that you may secretly fulfill their agenda.

Those evil spirits will make sure that your wife or husband, brothers, sisters and more are not aware of what you are experiencing. They will lock you into a world of secrets and discretion. It’s a spiritual system that the devil uses to bring you into captivity.

11 But when she took it to him to eat, he grabbed her and said, “Come to bed with me, my sister.”

12 “No, my brother!” she said to him. “Don’t force me! Such a thing should not be done in Israel! Don’t do this wicked thing. 13 What about me? Where could I get rid of my disgrace? And what about you? You would be like one of the wicked fools in Israel. Please speak to the king; he will not keep me from being married to you.” 14 But he refused to listen to her, and since he was stronger than she, he raped her.

The Amnon and Jonadab's demonic agenda has been fulfilled. Amon asked his sister to come to his bed and Tamar replied: “No, my brother! don’t force me! Such a thing should not be done in Israel!”

You have to know that whenever a man wants to do something wrong, there is always a little voice inside that tells him not to do it.

14 “But he refused to listen to her, and since he was stronger than she, he raped her.” 15 Then Amnon hated her with intense hatred. In fact, he hated her more than he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Get up and get out!”

Pushed by evil spirits Amnon raped his sister Tamar, the dignity of her sister was violated. Suddenly a hatred rose in the heart of Amnon and he began to hate his sister.

Why was the love and passion for his sister taken from Amnon's heart? Because the spirits of addictions that controlled Amnon were satisfied by taking Tamar's virginity. Thus the satisfactions of these spirits took Amnon's love for his sister and he began to hate her more than he loved her.

In the final part we will see how we can be delivered from spirits of addictions and keep our permanent deliverance in Jesus name.

Stay tuned, God bless you.
